Research Experience with Dr. Boyang Wang - UCDaSec

May 27, 2025

During Spring 2025, I did research with Dr. Boyang Wang from Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering as part of my self-designed experience. We worked together on unmasked and masked version of Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) hardware implementation, specifically on the design, document for High Level Synthesis process, and analysis for pre-silicon side channel analysis. The experience has great impacts on me personally and professionally. From the personal aspect, I has become more confident when talking and discussing my ideas and opinions with my supervisor and other people in the lab. From the professional aspect, I have come to realize that I really enjoy doing research and also feel like research is a good fit for me. I could see myself doing research in the future, potentially become a professor and teach. I’m not sure if it is entirely true or not, but it’s a career path that I feel like it’s a good fit for me and I’m going to do the best I can to chase that goal. In the end, the experience does not only give me deeper understanding in the field of hardware security but also set me up on the academia path that I want to pursue.
